Questions & Answers

Booking a Himalayan Eco Ride expedition

Essential information about guided motorcycle touring in Nepal with Himalayan Eco Ride and ADV TRIBE.

What riding experience is suitable for Upper Mustang?

Himalayan Eco Ride has not confirmed a minimum riding-skill requirement for this tour. The route includes unpaved mountain roads, loose gravel and high-altitude terrain up to 3,840 metres at Lo Manthang, so riders should be comfortable on that terrain. Contact ADV TRIBE before booking if you are unsure whether the tour suits your experience.

How does the split payment arrangement work?

The booking amount is part of the total package price, not an added surcharge. Paying the Booking Amount submits a booking request. It is not a confirmed seat. ADV TRIBE then obtains confirmation of your requested place from Himalayan Eco Ride. Once your place is confirmed, pay the remaining tour balance immediately, directly to Himalayan Eco Ride. The booking remains subject to the cancellation and refund arrangements listed under Commercial & Settlement Terms on the tour page.

What package and motorcycle options are available?

Four package options are offered for this expedition: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 rental, Honda CRF250L rental, joining on your own motorcycle, or travelling as a non-rider in the support vehicle. Rental motorcycles are subject to fleet availability and operator confirmation. The own-motorcycle package excludes rental. Non-rider places depend on support-vehicle capacity confirmed for the departure.

What support is provided on the tour?

Himalayan Eco Ride lists a locally coordinated tour guide and support staff, a stand-by motorcycle mechanic and a backup support vehicle for luggage and spares. The backup vehicle applies to groups of 4 to 15 riders and is unconfirmed for smaller groups. Support staffing and vehicle arrangements are confirmed by Himalayan Eco Ride for each departure.

What permits are required for Upper Mustang?

Upper Mustang is a restricted area of Nepal. Himalayan Eco Ride lists the Restricted Area Permit (RAP) and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) entry permit as included in the tour price. Permit arrangements, and the documents needed for them, are confirmed by the operator for each departure.

What elevations are reached on the route?

The route runs Kathmandu, Pokhara, Tatopani, Kagbeni and Lo Manthang, which is the highest point at 3,840 metres, then returns via Muktinath, Pokhara and Chitwan. Riders should pace themselves and consult a physician regarding high-altitude travel before departure.

What riding gear is recommended?

Riders are strongly advised to wear comprehensive protective adventure gear suited for cold mountain weather and off-road terrain. This includes a quality full-face or adventure helmet, armoured jacket and riding trousers with thermal and windproof layers, sturdy adventure or motocross boots, protective gloves, and eye protection. Luggage arrangements and available support-vehicle capacity will be confirmed for each departure.

What travel documents are required for Nepal?

Passport, visa, identification and riding-licence requirements depend on nationality and how you travel. International travellers generally require a passport with at least six months validity and an applicable Nepal tourist visa. Indian citizens do not require a visa but must carry approved government photo identification. Personal travel, medical and emergency evacuation insurance is mandatory and is the rider's own responsibility; it is not included in the tour price. Riders bringing an India-registered motorcycle are responsible for the applicable India-Nepal border-entry and vehicle documentation; Himalayan Eco Ride provides guidance and coordination.
