The route, day by day
Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu. Meet and transfer to hotel in Thamel. In the evening, attend the welcome dinner, meet your tour guide and team for a comprehensive tour briefing, motorcycle inspection, and permit document preparation.
The journey begins with a scenic highway ride tracing the Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers through terraced hills and river settlements. Paved highways with occasional rough patches allow riders to settle into their bikes. Arrive in Pokhara and relax along Phewa Lake.
Ride west through Beni and Kusma into the rugged Kali Gandaki River valley. The road narrows into adventurous mixed terrain with gravel and stone beds. Optional stop at Kusma or Baglung Kalika Temple. Finish at Tatopani, relaxing in natural geothermal hot springs.
Official entry into the Mustang region. Roads become rougher with gravel, river stones, and off-road sections. Ride past apple orchards in Marpha and through Jomsom as lush greenery turns into arid Himalayan moonscape. Arrive in Kagbeni, the medieval gateway village to Upper Mustang.
The restricted Upper Mustang off-road expedition begins. Cross permit checkpoints and navigate desert dirt tracks, sheer canyon walls, and high mountain passes. Pass through ancient Tibetan villages including Chele, Syangboche, and Ghami before arriving at the walled capital of Lo Manthang.
Acclimatisation and cultural exploration day in the ancient walled kingdom. Explore 14th-century Buddhist monasteries (Jampa, Thubchen, Chode), the King's Palace, and ride out to the historic multi-tiered Jhong Sky Caves of Chhoser near the Tibetan border.
Begin the return ride along high-altitude Upper Mustang trails before descending towards Muktinath. This challenging day combines off-road riding with deep spiritual significance as Muktinath at 3,800 m is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists.
A long descent retracing the Kali Gandaki Valley through Jomsom, Marpha, Tatopani, and Beni. Mixed gravel and rough terrain give way to smooth tarmac as you exit the rain shadow and return to the lush subtropical greenery and lakeside cafes of Pokhara.
Ride southeast through scenic mid-hill highways, river valleys, and quiet rural countryside down to the Terai lowlands. Arrive in Chitwan for a complete change of pace and landscape, with opportunities for wildlife spotting along the edge of Chitwan National Park.
The final riding day ascends from the subtropical plains through the winding hills and gorges back into the Kathmandu Valley. Conclude the riding expedition at the hotel in Thamel, followed by a farewell dinner celebrating the journey with your crew.
Post breakfast, check out from the hotel. The Himalayan Eco Ride team arranges private transfers to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward international flight home.
